The FWO research network “An eco-evolutionary network of biotic interactions” organizes its ninth two-day symposium on “Eco-evolutionary Dynamics” on Tuesday 20th December and Wednesday 21st December at the University of Ghent (campus Ledeganck). It is sponsored by the Doctoral Schools Natural Sciences en (Bioscience) Engineering.

This specialist course aims to bring PhD students in contact with both theoretical and empirical biologists specialized in the field of ecology and evolution, through the attendance of oral presentations on evolutionary ecology, genomics, bio-informatics, network analysis and computation biology, and through informal contacts. In addition, it offers a platform for PhD students to present and discuss their own research finding to/with experts. In addition to gaining new insights in innovative concepts and tools, students also gain from being exposed to a wide range of international researchers (internationalization@home).

The symposium is structured into five complementary symposia, each comprising four contact hours (totaling 20 contact hours). Doctoral students should attend at least four of the five symposia (totaling 16 contact hours) to gain 1 credit.

EVENET participation is free. We foresee coffee-breaks, welcome/goodbye mixer on Monday evening, and poster sessions with local beers to sample.

The EVENET conference dinner is optional (55 €)

The meeting will be preceded by the Flanders Annual Meeting of Ecology (FAME) 2016 on December 19th.

The FWO research networks brings together international experts in the field of eco-evolutionary research and aims to provide a forum to researchers from the network to present their research to the scientific community. The meeting is free and open to researchers outside the network. Participation will be limited to 100 people. PhD students can register to this event within their doctoral school program.

FAME is parallel to the NAEM (Netherlands Annual Ecology Meeting) and organized by a group of academic ecologists and NECOV (Dutch - Flemish Ecological Society). The aim is to bring together researchers around crucial topics and topical networks with respect to ecology, more in particular the study of the distribution and abundance of organisms, the interaction between organisms and their environment and structure and function of ecosystems. Speakers are encouraged to connect both applied and fundamental research to societal challenges and discuss future opportunities.

The registration fee for FAME is:
- 25€ (non-student)
- 20€ (student)
- 20€ (NecoV-members).
